ABC is in the works with securing an Uncle Buck comedy series, which will be produced by Will Packer.
It seems as though a theme is amongst us as studios are trying to reel in the 80's and 90's movies of the past and putting them onto the small screen. Recently Problem Child hit headlines as NBC is in the works of reviving the film onto the small screen.
Uncle Buck is a classic amongst moviegoer of the 80's and 90's cohorts. The film featured the late John Candy as the ultimate bachelor, Buck, who must babysit his brother's rebellions, moody teenage daughter and her younger brother and sister.
As reported by Deadline the television show would consist of a half-hour slot, multi-camera series produced by Packer.
The series will be written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley and will assume similar concepts to the movie's plotline.
Uncle Buck, the film, also included: Amy Madigan, Macaulay Culkin and Laurie Metcalf. It hit theaters in August 1989 grossing $80 million.
Packer is one of Hollywood's hit makers, with seven films opening number one at the box office. He develops deals with Universal Pictures and Universal Television under his Will Packer Productions. The producer's most successful film has been the Ice Cube and Kevin Hart comedy, Ride Along, with an opening box-office total of $48 million during a holiday weekend. Other films this year that have been successful for the producer are No Good Deed and Think Like a Man.
With top box office rating, it wouldn't be a surprise if an Uncle Buck spinoff really took off.
The man who made Uncle Buck what it is today, John Candy, died on March 4, 1994 in Durango, Mexico from an apparent heart attack. He was filming Wagons East! on location at the time. As reports state, he cooked a dinner and then went to bed, not to awake.
