After months and months of teasers, the season premiere of the CW's The Flash finally premieres. Get ready to meet the DC Comics superhero, the fastest man alive, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in "City of Heroes."
We see young Barry Allen getting picked on by bullies. His mother warns him about no more fighting, but his father, Henry (John Wesley Shipp) nicknames him slugger. That very same night, the little boy wakes up to find his mother murdered.
That little boy goes up to be the slowest man alive. The forensics assistant analyzes the crime scene for his surrogate father, Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). Later, Iris West (Candice Patton) gets Barry to head on over to S.T.A.R. Labs, where Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) gives a powerful speech about advancements in medicine.
During the speech, Iris' bag gets stolen by a thief. Though he tires to get it back, Barry ends up humiliated and beaten by the crook. Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett), another cop, saves the day and gets Iris' bag back.
Feeling like a loser, Barry heads back to his crime lab, where he continues to investigate his mother's murder. During the lightning storm, a particle accelerator at S.T.A.R. Labs explodes. In the aftermath of the explosion, Joe loses his partner by a fleeing criminal and Barry gets struck by lightning.
Barry wakes up from his coma to Lady Gaga music. He meets Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), who have been by his bed side for nine months. While everyone is analyzing the data, Barry meets his idol, Wells, who is now in a wheelchair.
During the explosion, their gorilla, Grodd, escaped from his cage. The particle accelerator explosion has turned Wells into a laughingstock, killed Caitlin's fiancee, and ruined the reputation of S.T.A.R. Labs. Barry just wants to see Iris again.
While Barry meets up with his loved ones, the Weather Wizard (Chad Rook) has just robbed a bank. At the precinct, Barry sees his world slowing down. He is quick on his feet prevent a shootout from even happening.
As the team analyzes Barry's speed, he remembers the night of his mother's murder. He believes there was man inside the ball of lighting. The flashback causes Barry to crash and break his arm, which heals in less than three hours.
Barry's heart is broken as well when he sees Iris kissing Eddie. While the two are talking, Barry saves Iris from a speeding car. Barry is unable to stop the Weather Wizard, who uses his powers to make his getaway. Joe refuses to believe the man who killed his partner is still alive.
Barry discovers the explosion has caused the birth of metahumans. Harrison tells Barry that he is nothing special, not even a hero. Betrayed and depressed, Barry runs his way to Starling City, to meet his friend, Ollie Queen (Stephen Amell). Ollie inspires Barry to wear a mask, to inspire others, and become the hero he was always meant to be.
Cisco has designed a red suit that can work with Barry's super-speed powers. Joe and Barry arrive at the same location where the Weather Wizard is hiding. The Weather Wizard uses his powers to build a tornado to destroy everyone.
Barry runs in the opposite direction to stop the tornado but fails. Through the headsets, Harrison apologizes for what he said before. He needs Barry to start running as fast as he can.
The plan works, but the two are both exhausted and beaten from exerting their powers. Just when the Weather Wizard is about to pull the trigger, Joe shoots first. Joe will keep Barry's secret but all he asks in return is for Barry to protect Iris.
Barry visits his father in prison, promising he will get him out. Elsewhere, Harrison enters his secret lab, stands up, and reads a newspaper from the future. The headlines read that The Flash is missing, due to the "Infinite Crisis."
