Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is easily one of the most anticipated video games of the year, with plenty of gameplay trailers showing off the multiplayer and story action that gamers can't wait to get their hand on. With a release date set for Nov. 14, it looks like we know just what to expect from this Next-Gen masterpiece, but what about the game's influence? In a new interview with IGN, Advanced Warfare director and Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield revealed a powerful real-life story that helped influence this game.

Speaking with the entertainment and gaming website, Schofield told a story of a friend of his who escaped from Iraq in 2000, just before most Americans found out what was going on over there. Find out how this story influenced the plot of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

"A friend of mine - did you see the Democracy speech? People don't want this and that, they want food, support, protection? - well, a friend of mine escaped from Iraq back in 2000, before the war," Schofield explained. "His family escaped from Iraq, but three years prior his uncle was arrested and was going to be put to death. On Saddam Hussein's birthday, however, Saddam let him go. Saddam did that: every year he let a few people go on his birthday. So they were escaping and they asked this uncle to come with them, and you know what he said? He said, 'Why would I go? Yeah, he put me in jail and maybe it was a mistake, but I've got support, I've got my life, I've got it all. All I need is protection and food.'"

The need and want for only the necessities in life really affected the game director.

He continued: "So they escaped and he stayed, this guy that was previously going to be put to death. He didn't want to leave. So that incident really made me think."
