San Antonio Spurs guard-forward Danny Green apologized Wednesday, Oct. 8, for an insensitive caption he wrote — lol #Holocaust — alongside a selfie he took at the Holocaust memorial in Berlin, Germany, earlier in the day.
"You know I had to do it one time lol #Holocaust," he wrote, sharing the snap to Instagram and Facebook.

He has since changed the caption to, "A lot of history here, more than you could imagine...very sad/tragic things happened #holocaust #berlin."
He then took to Twitter to express his regret for any offense he may have caused:
I want to sincerely apologize for the insensitivity of my post! — Danny Green (@DGreen_14) October 8, 2014
He also tweeted:
I have great respect n understanding for this country's history n wanted to continue chronicling my experience in Berlin

But showed poor judgement...sorry once again — Danny Green (@DGreen_14) October 8, 2014
As Deadspin points out, "Green obviously didn't mean anything by this, but let it be a lesson to all - 'lol #Holocaust' is probably just not a combination of characters you want to be involved with."
Green and his Spurs teammates are in the German capital to bond, sightsee and play an exhibition game against Alba Berlin this afternoon. They'll travel to Istanbul, Turkey, next to face Istanbul Fenerbahce Ulker Saturday.
After that, they'll return stateside for five more pre-season games before kicking off the 2014-15 regular season against the Dallas Mavericks Oct. 28.
Last year, Green averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 68 games, starting 59 of those contests.
