This week's episode of The Goldbergs is all about the music. The '80s soundtrack and a major royal wedding are the center of "The Facts Of Bleeping Life."
The episode begins with a Twisted Sister music video and transitions into Barry and Adam singing the song themselves. "We were the stuff of legends, well in our minds," Adam says about his garage band. As Barry and Adam bond over becoming rock stars, Beverly is watching all of the pre-Royal Wedding footage for Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding.
As she is sitting there, one of her friends tells her that she did a vow renewal ceremony to fix all the things that went wrong during her first wedding. Beverly loves the idea and talks Murray into it... after shedding a few tears.
Downstairs, Erica and her best friend Laney are waiting for their favorite music video to come on the TV. They wait all day and just as The Bangles' "Eternal Flame" starts, Barry pulls the TV plug and tries to convince them to come watch his band practice. Barry thinks Laney secretly loves him, which she doesn't, because he is head over heels for her.
In order to take the next step with their band, Barry and Adam go to their mom and try to get a gig playing at her wedding. She says no, which shocks both of them, but Pops agrees to hire them for one song.
After hearing that the gig pays $200, Erica and Laney join the band and they are actually pretty good. As Laney and Erica take over the group, Adam loses it and tells Barry that he has changed. Moments later the girls kick Barry out of the band!
Meanwhile in wedding land, Beverly asks to hear Murray's vows, but he hasn't written any. In order to save himself from a huge fight he recites the theme song from Family Ties and Beverly loves it. Later on, she tells her friend all about it and she quickly recognizes the words and tells Beverly that he was lying about his vows.
Beverly obviously doesn't respond well to this news and tries to find a way to get back at Murray. She makes him a special dinner and then reads him her vows, the lyrics from The Facts of Life. Murray knows he is in trouble, but doesn't know how to fix it.
In a switch to Barry, he apologizes to Adam and they get their band back together. They then battle the girls who are practicing in the garage and it is horrible. Sadly, Barry discovers that Laney doesn't like him and he is heartbroken.
The next morning, Murray wakes up to Beverly's alarm to watch the Royal Wedding, but she doesn't move. Murray goes downstairs to find Barry eating shrimp and watching the wedding. He is heartbroken about Laney, but Murray tells him he will find love eventually. He then shows him his own wedding video and points out that if he can get Beverly to marry him, then Barry can also get woman out of his league to fall for him.
Murray then realizes what he needs to do. He gets the girls to sing, while Barry plays the triangle, and Beverly starts to wake up. She comes downstairs to see her father waiting to walk her down the aisle. They renew they vows while she is wearing her nightgown and it is very sweet.
The episode ends with Barry telling Laney that he will grow on her. She denies it, but she also loves the attention. Go team Barry!
