The latest complaints about the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus claim the devices are literally ripping people's hair out. The scandal has been appropriately hashtagged #hairgate and #beardgate, referencing the first iPhone 6 scandal #bendgate, in which people complained that their new phones were bending.
According to Time magazine, Apple said that with normal use a bend in the phone is rare, and that the numbers of users that have reported bent phones is extremely low; only 9 so far. Apple has publicly displayed the rigorous tests that phones undergo before being released to consumers, and has announced that some bent phones will be eligible for replacement.
The new problem, which has been widely reported on Twitter in the last several days, reportedly stems from a design flaw. The seam where the phone's glass meets the aluminum casing is wide enough to catch onto people's hair. Those who actually use their phones to talk, end up getting their hair caught between the seam and pulling out strands of hair, or beard. Ouch!
According to Yahoo! Beauty, Mashable demonstrates in a video that the iPhone 6 does not get caught in people's hair. A variety of men and women — some with short hair, others with long hair — tested the new iPhone by taking calls, rubbing the device on their beards and even "combing" their hair with it. Not one experienced pulling or snagging. Meanwhile, there are YouTubers uploading videos that demonstrate exactly the opposite effect.
Apple has yet to respond to the new claims. Although the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus may be the most controversial Apple devices to date, their sales haven't seemed to be affected. According to Forbes, Apple has sold close to 20 million units, with bending, hair snatching and all.
