After getting burned off the map by the zombie apocalypse, the kids of Riverdale are about to face a new threat from outer space. Announced at the New York Comic Con, in a surprising crossover event by Dark Horse Comics and Archie Comics, the special "Archie Meets Predator" comic is a fight where only one will walk out alive.
From the sci-fi/horror blockbuster franchise, the spine-collecting hunter has taken on the likes of action heroes, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Glover. But that wasn't enough for the extraterrestrial warrior, who then went on to take on the Xenomorphs, from the Alien franchise.
This has been an incredible year for Archie Andrews. Not only did our Riverdale teen die a noble and heroic death in Life After Archie, he had to save his friends and loved ones when the living dead rose from the graves in Afterlife With Archie. What has Archie done that the Predator thinks he's worthy of a fight after taking on the likes of Batman?
In a statement released to the press, Archie Comics publisher/co-CEO Jon Goldwater states, "In the grand tradition of Archie Meets the Punisher and Archie Meets Kiss, we're unbelievably excited to partner with Dark Horse to show what happens when the Predator comes to Riverdale. It's going to be a surprising, energetic, and must-read series, and we're so glad Alex de Campi and Fernando Ruiz are joining forces to tell this off-the-wall story."
USA Today got scoop from the Grindhouse scribe about the upcoming storyline. In the plot, Archie and friends hit Costa Rica for spring break. The party and beach games when the trophy-collecting Predator arrives. Will Betty, Veronica, and Jughead realize they're in danger before it's too late?
De Campi teases what makes this bizarre crossover work: "Because it's just completely insane. Let's take this gentle, beloved, classic teen cast and hunt them down and slaughter them one by one. Seriously, if you wouldn't jump at the chance to write something like this, you need your head examined."
Archie Meets Predator #1 will be on sale in April 2015. Readers, are you excited for this crossover event?
