If you're a fan of the Ray Romano-Patricia Heaton-starring late-90s-early-2000s series Everybody Loves Raymond, then you may find yourselves excited (?) to discover that the show is now heading to the Czech Republic. Not in syndication, of course –– the country is creating their own version titled Everybody Loves Rudy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
On the new version, Sony's EVP of scripted programming, Jeff Lerner, explained, "Everybody Loves Raymond is perfect for local adaptation with its universal, familiar and relatable themes. Local versions of this great show have proved very popular with diverse audiences, and we look forward to adding the Czech Republic to our growing 'family' of Raymonds in the region."
As mentioned, the Czech Republic will not be the first to house their very own Everybody Loves Raymond. In fact, the show's Executive Producer Philip Rosenthal documented his experiences in bringing a version of the show over to Russia in Exporting Raymond. It was ... interesting, to say the least, and totally worth a watch.
The Russian concept is now titled The Voronins and has been on CTC since 2009.
Aside from Russia and the soon-to-be Czech versions of Everybody Loves Raymond, the iconic comedy has been recreated in the Middle East, Poland and Israel.
Regarding the news that the series will make way over to the Czech Republic, producer for Czech Television, Jan Stern, said, "We expect a positive response on the part of our viewers."
So, will the Czech lead be named Rudy Romano? No, probably not...
