DUIs seem to be a big thing in the news this week. First, country singer Randy Travis is found buck-naked laying out in the middle of a street in Texas, then it's reported that Jessica Simpson's dad was arrested over the weekend for driving while intoxicated, and now Rick Springfield's case. The "Jessie's Girl" singer has pleaded no contest to reckless driving and will serve out a probation term to end a drunken driving case filed after his arrest in May of 2011.

In a Malibu courtroom on Thursday, Springfield's attorney Philip Cohen entered the plea to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving "with driving under the influence conditions."  Springfield was originally charged with drunken driving after police pulled his 1963 Corvette over on the Pacific Coast Highway for speeding. The new charges do not mention any form of alcohol impairment. Springfield was not present at Thursday's hearing.

District attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison says Springfield will be on informal probation for three years and is required to attend a three-month alcohol education program.

62-year-old Australian singer/songwriter Springfield first kicked off his musical career in the pop rock group Zoot. He then when on to pursue a solo career, producing a number of hits including "Jessie's Girl" and "Affair of the Heart."
