It's being reported by Rolling Stone that famed activist, author, teacher and philosopher Cornel West was arrested during the "Moral Monday" march that took place in Ferguson, Missouri earlier this week. He was among 49 other protestors who were taken into custody that same day.
RS via CNN points out that the march was in order to call for the arrest of the police officer who shot down and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown back in August of this year. West – and those who followed – were charged with "disturbing the peace after they allegedly attempted to break through a police line."
West was reportedly marching arm-in-arm with religious leaders of varying faiths.
Before the "Moral Monday" march, the famed name was a one of the main speakers during Sunday night's rally, which consisted of 2,000 people. Not surprisingly, the academic's speech truly moved the crowd, telling them, "Everybody knows if you shoot somebody down, you should be arrested."
He then asked those in the crowd focus their anger not to violence, but to creating a plan that can deliver a change. "We're here because we love the young folks," he said.
RS notes that the amount of protests in the area have waned in the past few weeks, but this Sunday saw yet another one in response to a more recent news story, the death of another 18-year-old, Vonderitt Myers, Jr. –– a black teenager who was gunned down by a white officer this past Wednesday evening.
While the authorities claim Myers was, in fact, armed, his family continues to dispute those allegations.
