Earlier this week, Variety broke the news that Robert Downey Jr. would have a significant role in Captain America 3, which would kick off the Marvel Civil War storyline from the comics. Now, some new reports add some more information about Cap 3 and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Badass Digest reports Marvel is considering "Civil War" and "Fallen Son" as subtitles for Cap 3. In addition, the site states Downey's scenes would take 30 to 40 days of filming, which marks a pretty substantial chunk of time for a movie not about Iron Man.
As for how Age of Ultron plays into the third Cap movie, Joss Whedon's sequel will feature tons of destruction and some major fallout for the main characters. Tony Stark will reportedly leave the team and may even quit being Iron Man because he feels so guilty and responsible for Ultron's actions in the film.
Previous reports had indicated Captain America would lead a new team by the end of Age of Ultron. Badass Digest now reports that team consists of Falcon, War Machine, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow and "probably the Vision," though the site adds that a source said Black Widow "will not be much of a presence in Cap 3."
But wait, there's more! Badass Digest also reports Chris Evans will not be in The Avengers 3 because "the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be in a tough, dark place, with the heroes scattered and defeated" by the time Captain America 3 concludes. Furthermore, the site reports some shocking news that directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, who helmed the wildly successful Captain America: The Winter Soldier, are in talks to take over directorial duties from Joss Whedon for The Avengers 3 in order to continue the Civil War storyline started in Cap 3. The brothers are also reportedly in talks to direct The Avengers 4.
This is a lot to take in, and let's not forget Thanos and the Infinity Stones are still out there in the MCU, too. As always, take this information with a grain of salt until official confirmation arrives.
