After months of speculation, the rumors about HBO Go becoming available to viewers without a cable subscription are true! Starting next year, you can watch all of the premium channel's shows on the streaming service just by signing up for a standalone account. The network's CEO, Richard Plepler, confirmed this news this week in a new press release. This means that HBO Go will officially go up against Netflix in the streaming industry.

"That is a large and growing opportunity that should no longer be left untapped. It is time to remove all barriers to those who want HBO," Plepler stated in this week's press release. "So, in 2015, we will launch a stand-alone, over-the-top, HBO service in the United States. We will work with our current partners. And, we will explore models with new partners. All in, there are 80 million homes that do not have HBO and we will use all means at our disposal to go after them."
It's not like we didn't see this coming, but the news is still very exciting. This means that you probably won't have to steal your friend's (or friend's of friends, etc.) passwords to get the HBO shows you want. Actually, that might continue, but at least you have the opportunity to maybe try to get your own account now!
