El Rey Network Launches Mark Burnett's 'Lucha Underground' New Wrestling Series! [WATCH]

This October, El Rey Network will present its audiences with an exciting, all-new wrestling series. From Emmy award winner Mark Burnett (Survivor), dive into the world of freestyle wrestling and high-flying aerial maneuvers with Lucha Underground.

Since launching his own network, renowned filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has brought audiences From Dusk Till Dawn TV series and the espionage/drama Matador. Now El Rey rides into lucha libre, which refers to another form of professional wrestling. Get ready to meet the warriors who are going to take the ring by storm.

According to the press statement, the character-driven series is currently in production in Boyle Heights, CA. The hour-long wrestling program will feature combines extraordinary athleticism, mixing ancient tradition and theatrics. In 39 episodes, watch the slingshot moves, colorful masks, and rapid-fire combinations.

In Mexico's most popular sport, the masked villains and heroes face off against each other in riveting one-on-one matches. One of the wrestlers is Blue Demon Jr., the adopted son of the legendary original Blue Demon. In Mexico's cinematic history, Blue Demon appeared in the luchador movies along with El Santo (The Saint). Now we get to see if Junior can hold his own when he's inside the ring.

Translated from Spanish to English, Blue Demon Jr. describes wrestling as, "a magical world, where magic doesn't exist, this is real."

Wrestling fans may recognize Johnny Mundo as the former WWE superstar, John Morrison. Sexy Star, Chavo Guerrero Jr., and Catrino are just a few of the wrestlers who will appear on the series.
