For all those Smash fans that are still devastated by the show's cancellation, we have some pretty awesome news for you. It has just been confirmed that Lifetime is working on a new miniseries about the life of Marilyn Monroe and one of our favorite actresses of all time Susan Sarandon has just landed one of the big roles in the project.
According to E! News, the Academy Award winning actress and Tammy star is gearing up to play Monroe's mother in the new miniseries, titled Marilyn. As all true Marilyn fans know, Norma Jean's mother's mental illness had a huge impact on the life of the famous Hollywood actress.
The production will be based off of J. Randy Taraborrelli's novel The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe and will focus on her life growing up with her mother played by Sarandon's character.
No news yet on who is set to take on the title role of the film.
Deadline is also reporting that Sarandon is set to take on the role, and says that this is the third film that will debut on the network, which will focus on stars who have died before their time. The biopics of Whitney Houston and Aaliyah are also in the works at the channel.
The four-hour miniseries will be written by Stephen Kronish, who also penned the screenplay for The Kennedys. Laurie Collyer will direct, with Jonathan Koch, Steven Michaels, Keri Selig and Kronish set to producer the project.
The film is set to debut on Lifetime in 2015.
