According to new reports, Hasbro's popular My Little Pony cartoon franchise will be making a big theater debut in 2017 with a new movie! Just like the company's other properties Transformers and G.I. Joe, a movie adaptation of the animated series will hopefully capitalize on the fan base wanting a big screen version of the television show. This also includes "Bronies," which we're sure that Hasbro is fine as long as they buy theater tickets.
According to Variety, Universal Pictures is co-financing the movie's budget, with both companies talking about releasing the film "on the broadest possible number of screens." This news comes from Stephen Davis, the president of Hasbro Studios and global entertainment and licensing for Hasbro Inc.
"We've very excited about the potential of that movie," Davis said. "We will continue to make big tentpole movies with our studio partners, but there is another set of movies where we feel we have an opportunity to have a bit more control over the budgeting, financing, calendarization, marketing and creative of our films. There are new economic models that fit certain films."
He added: "We have a lot of experience working on this particular brand. Film and TV is a key driver and very important part of the building blocks for a company like Hasbro. It's where we want to use great stories to activate our brands."
