August: Osage County actress Julia Roberts is all about standing up for what you believe in. At the GLSEN's Respect Awards on Friday, Julia revealed she hopes her children eventually stand up for their beliefs like all of the amazing teenagers who attended the function.
GLSEN is an advocacy group that runs nationwide to help make schools safe for LGBT students. While at the awards event the 46-year-old actress admitted she was very impressed by all of the young men and women activists standing up for this cause.
"These are the heroes, what they deal with, how brave they are, how well spoken, how articulate, the way they champion themselves and their causes is incredible to me," Roberts exclusively told E! News at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Friday.
"I was not like this when I was in high school. I couldn't put a complex sentence together much less present myself in an open forum," she added.
By listening to all of the young individuals speak, Julia discovered that their strength and passion for this cause is what she hopes her children grow up to embody. "I have three little kids that I hope grow up to be just as inspired to speak out in what they believe in and what their friends believe in. These guys need back up," the Oscar winner told the publication.
The actress was in attendance at the GLSEN event because she was being honored with this year's Humanitarian Award. Ryan Murphy presented the iconic actress with her award and Julia opened up about the negatives of bullying and how it makes a mother feel seeing her child become a victim of bullying.
"I want to energetically just pour my heart out to all the mothers of all the children who have suffered from this kind of bullying. I just want to go and beat the s--t out of them. And you can't because then there's the second wave of bullying-'Oh, your mom just beat the s--t out of that guy," she said after accepting her award.
