Although known for their creativity and artistic capability, left-handed individuals are outnumbered approximately 10-to-1 by right-handers. But August 13 marks the official International Left Handers Day, so for all those individuals who accidently smudge ink across the page when writing (who made the general rule that one has to write from left to right across the page anyway?) today is for you.

According to the assistant professor of psychology at the New School for Social Research in New York City Daniel Casasanto, "Handedness influences the way people think and feel, and how thoughts and feelings are organized in their brains. It turns out to matter in a number of ways" (ABC News).

Due to such vast psychological differences and considering left-handers are in the vast minority, the Left-Handers Club created the International Left-Handers Day in 1992 in order "to keep members in touch with developments, make their views known to manufacturers and others, provide a help and advice line, to promote research into left-handedness and development of new left-handed items."

The Left-Handers Club also posted on their site:

The occasion is a day "when left-handers everywhere can celebrate their sinistrality and increase public awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of being left-handed."

Although being born left-handed is less probable, there are a number of big-name celebrities that bump elbows with fellow right-handers at the dinner table. Check out this list of just some of them:

Prince William, Marilyn Monroe, Lady Gaga:

Jimi Hendrix, Nicole Kidman, Barack Obama:

Paul McCartney, Angelina Jolie, Eminem:
