More than two decades after the hit series The Wonder Years went off the air, the cast has reunited in honor of the series's release on DVd. Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage), Winnie Cooper (Danika McKellar) and Paul Pfeiffer (Josh Saviano) joined together on Good Morning America Monday, Oct. 20, and reminisced about their popular show.
The trio reunited on GMA and sat down with Robin Roberts to talk about growing up together on screen and promoting the new release of The Wonder Years on DVD. They even reflected on the differences between TV families now and then.
"I think the way that families have been portrayed on TV has evolved as we have. Ours was a very kind of nuclear, traditional family, but as families have changed, and they look different, they come together in different ways, I love that TV's reflected that," Ben told Robin on the talk show.
"No matter how families change, there's still things that all families go through. Regardless of what your family looks like or how it's been put together, I think you can find stuff to relate to in the show. Some things stay the same," he said.
The 1988 series debuted on ABC Jan. 31, 1988. The show took place in the 1960s and early '70s and followed Kevin Arnold as her transitioned through his childhood and became an adult. His onscreen love Winnie Cooper and best friend Paul Pfeiffer were along for the ride. The series ended in 1993.
"I auditioned for the part of Winnie only because it was a guest role on the pilot," Danika revealed about her role.
If Winnie was originally written as a series regular, she wouldn't have even tried out for the role, based on her mother's rule against full-time gigs, she explained.
