MStars News has learned that fashion legend Oscar de la Renta died Monday, Oct. 20, at the age of 82.
According to PEOPLE, de la Renta's death has been confirmed by his wife, Annette, who revealed to the New York Times that the fashion designer died at their home in Kent, Connecticut.
Renta, who had been battling cancer for eight years, since 2006, recently named Peter Copping as creative director of the de la Renta house just last week.
During a speech at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) de la Renta talked about his cancer, sharing, "Yes, I had cancer. Right now, I am totally clean. The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die. We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life."
The legendary designer was born in Dominican Republic in 1932, later moving to Madrid at 18 to take up painting. After learning about fashion, de la Renta began working for Balenciaga and Lanvin before creating his own fashion label in the 1960s.
De la Renta has been known to design for multiple clients, including a number of well-known celebrities, like Jackie Kennedy, Jennifer Gardner, Jessica Alba, Lea Michele, and many more.
The fashion legend also designed for first lady Nancy Reagan during her time in the Whitehouse in the 1980s. The DR native also designed gowns for inaugural events for both Hillary Clinton in 1997 and Laura Bush in 2005. Michelle Obama just recently wore one of Oscar's dresses this month.
De la Renta's most recently design included Amal Alamuddin's wedding gown, as she tied the knot to actor, George Clooney in Venice, September 27.
Amal previously stated that de la Renta was, "such an elegant designer and such an elegant man."
