Kevin Love can score, rebound and do pretty much anything on the basketball court, but could he and his — fine — beard get in the way of the Cleveland Cavaliers and their NBA title dreams? LeBron James is looking to lead Kevin, Dion Waiters, Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao to a championship together, but is former Minnesota Timberwolves center Love one player too many, or is he the perfect piece to finish the puzzle? Love believes he has a lot to offer, and maybe he's right, but then again, maybe he'll get in the way.
Love explained his joy, saying, "I'm just looking forward to learning from the guys who have been there and done that before, LeBron included, and all the way through our entire lineup. There's a lot to be learned. I'm just going to try and be a sponge and absorb as much as possible. Stay grounded and have the humility that a lot of people have taught me. Continue to get better every day."
Was he always aware of the deal being completed? Apparently not, he continued: "We were kind of in legal purgatory for about a month or 30 days. It wasn't over until it was over for me. I had to go through the entire process of doing the physical, taking the blood, doing my due diligence and finally on that day, I got the call from my agent Jeff Schwartz that it was a done deal. It took me until after the press conference and all the way to now — moving here to Cleveland and getting settled in for it to really hit home."
Love has all the tools to be a huge hit for the Cavaliers, but with the amped up pressure LBJ brings to town, can Love step up to the plate? Either way, he has got a great beard, but will it be covering a championship-winning smile next summer?
