Joshua Jackson is quite the gentleman when it comes to dating and he has some advice for other men out there trying to impress a woman. The Affair star revealed that he believes a man should always pay when he takes a girl out.
At the GQ Gentleman's Ball on Wednesday night, the Dawson's Creek alum admitted that chivalry isn't dead. "Chivalry is a part of being a gentleman, but I don't think being composed at all times is gentlemanly," Joshua told Cosmopolitan.
The 36-year-old explained that being a little crazy sometimes is also part of being a man and it doesn't mean anything bad. "Sometimes you need to be outraged by things, and that's part of being a man. There are certain things that you shouldn't stand by and witness. So lots of things make me lose my cool. Maybe I'm just self-rationalizing, but I don't feel like quiet forbearance is a gentlemanly quality," he told the publication.
When it comes to being a gentleman at dinner, Joshua has strong feelings about splitting the check, too. "Splitting the check? No way, you can't do that. Unless the woman specifically asks. [Even on the man's birthday the man] should always cover the bill," the Fringe actor said.
Despite his traditional thoughts on chivalry and being a gentlemen at all times (which we love about him), Joshua still isn't married. He revealed it's simply because he is not religious. Joshua has been in a relationship with actress Diane Kruger since 2006, but they aren't walking down the aisle anytime soon.
"I can tell you why we're not married: We're not religious. I don't feel any more or less committed to Diane for not having stood in front of a priest and had a giant party," Joshua told Glamour in their November issue. "We're both children of divorce, so it's hard for me to take marriage at face value as the thing that shows you've grown up and are committed to another person. But it may change at some point. We may get married."
