Fans of The Big Bang Theory love seeing leading man Jim Parsons star on the uber successful CBS series as Sheldon Cooper. Now, however, they'll have to settle for just his voice. At least, for his upcoming NBC Elf special.
Yes, it's true. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Parsons will lend his voice and star as Buddy in the one-hour Elf special titled Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas. The animated special is scheduled to hit the peacock network (NBC) on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. EST.
According to the publication, Mark Hamill, Ed Asner, Fred Armisen, Jay Leno, Matt Lauer, Gilbert Gottfried, Kate Micucci, Rachael MacFarlane, Max Charles and Steve Higgins will also be included as voices in the special.
As if we had to tell you, the animated special is inspired by the Will Ferrell-led 2003 film of the same name. The movie, which garnered around $220 million worldwide, also spawned a Broadway show titled Elf: The Musical, which kicked off in 2011 and ended just last year.
THR reports that nine songs will be featured in the upcoming special, including "Happy All the Time," "A Christmas Song" and "Nobody Cares About Santa Claus."
Despite his Big Bang fame, Parsons has made an impression on both the stage and in pay cable. A couple of years ago, the 41-year-old actor starred in the Broadway play Harvey. He was also one of the leads in the 2014 HBO drama The Normal Heart.
