Jack Bruce, 71, the guitarist-singer for Cream, has died. The news of the musician's passing was posted on his official Facebook page on Saturday, October 25.
"It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."
Bruce's publicist told Rolling Stone that, "he died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family." Though no other current information regarding the musicians' death, although The Guardian has reported that Bruce suffered from liver disease.
Bruce was known to many as the founder of the British psychedelic rock power trio, Cream in the late '60s, which consisted of drummer Ginger Baker and guitarist/singer Eric Clapton. Their music was considered a hybrid of blues-rock, hard rock and psychedelic rock.
Before the trio went their separate ways they put out hit song such as "Sunshine of Your Love," and "White Room." Before the group broke off they put out four studio albums in three years.
Bruce got his real commercial success as a member of Manfred Mann in the late '60s, which included the number one UK single, "Pretty Flamingo."
Bruce also had a very successful solo career after Cream separated which lasted for many years. He also formed the band West, Bruce & Laing in 1972. After the band split he created another with drummer Simon Phillips and keyboardist Tony Hymas in 1977.
Born to musical parents in Glasgow, Scotland to musical parents who moved often, Bruce attended 14 different schools where he ended up winning a scholarship and musical composition to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Baker wrote on his Facebook page Saturday, that his passing was "the loss of a fine man."
