Victoria Beckham Named Entrepreneur Of The Year

Victoria Beckham has topped the list of Britain's top 100 entrepreneurs by Management Today magazine, being named Entrepreneur of the Year. According to BBC, it praised her "finely tuned business acumen" for expanding her fashion empire into a business with a $48 million turnover and a staff of 100. The magazine estimated her wealth at $338 million.

Editor Matthew Gwyther accepted that some may "scoff" at the fact that the former Spice Girl came at the top of the list.

"Some will say she's never been taught how to cut a pattern, or iron a pleat on a fashion course ... Doubters will claim she's just the wife of the world's most famously over-tattooed ex-footballer [soccer player]. It's all come to her far too easily," he said.

The ex-Spice Girl launched her fashion label in 2008 and, by 2011, won Designer Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.

In September, she opened her first shop in London's Mayfair. She couldn't attend the opening, as she was accepting her U.N. ambassador role, but she sent her husband, David Beckham, in her place. The designer spoke to WWD about the reason why she chose to open her store after so many years of success in the industry.

"I think the time is now because I know my customer," she said.

Beckham hired architect Farshid Moussavi to transform the space into her dream boutique. The 6,040-square-foot shop, on Dover Street, includes three floors and houses the collections from Beckham's eponymous label. These include her Victoria Victoria Beckham, denim, eyewear and accessories lines.

Beckham also announced she is opening an office in New York.

"I want to focus on the U.S. this year. To take it to the next level, I need a team on the ground living and breathing everything here in America," she said.

The office, on W. 25th St., is set to open in February 2015.
