From Liquid Comics, Wes Craven, the director of the Scream movies, and Steve Niles, the writer of 30 Days of Night, have teamed up to bring a horror comic that will send chills down your spine. Not only have these horror icons launched Coming of Rage, there is also a TV deal in the works with producer Arnold Rifkin.
Announced back in 2010, Liquid Comics was partnering up with major film talent such as John Woo and Nicolas Cage to create comic book and graphic novels. These comics would be distributed digitally, through the iPad, iPhone and other mobile devices. Years later, it seems like the Coming of Rage has officially been completed.
In a written piece for Kindlepost, the prolific Nightmare on Elm Street filmmaker shares his experience coming up with his new comic book series. Co-created along with Niles and artist Francesco Biagini, the concept came from an unfinished joke about a vampire, a werewolf, and a zombie walking into a bar. There was no punchline but there was enough material to imagine Ritchie, the lost soul who became the most powerful vampire in the world.
Craven describes the themes and plot, "What I love about this story is that it affords us all sorts of really strong human angles. We'll see the world of the super rich, preying on the poor. The world of magic and monsters. The world of authority figures breaking heads and killing for powerful men who pay them to do as they are told - no matter how awful the assignment."
The first three issues of the series have already been released together as a special Halloween digital exclusive for Amazon's Kindle. The Live Free or Die Hard producer's Cheyenne Enterprises is already eveloping a television adaptation of the series.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Criminal Macabre adds why their collaboration works so well, "Wes Craven is not only a great writer, producer and director, he is one of the most knowledgeable people I've had the honor to work with. I not only had fun working on Coming of Rage, I also learned a great deal."
