Katy Perry and John Mayer Dating After (and Before?) Russell Brand Divorce

Just after a fresh divorce from funnyman Russell Brand, pop star Katy Perry has been spotted hitting the streets of L.A. with acoustic bad boy John Mayer. But this is not the first time the two musicians have been romantically linked - rumors have it that Perry went on one date with Mayer the day before meeting future ex-husband Brand at the MTV VMAs in 2008.

An inside source told LOOK magazine: "A couple of friends had set Katy and John up on this date. They had an amazing time and were planning to do it again. Then she went to the VMAs and fell head over heels for Russell. But it must have always felt like unfinished business with her and John, and they'd occasionally text each other while she was with Russell. It's no surprise to friends they have hooked up now her divorce has been finalized."

After a short-lived marriage with Brand which lasted from October 2010 to December 2011 (the divorce was finalized in July 2012), Perry began spending time with the "Daughters" singer - meeting him at a "Four Seasons" hotel and cozying up with him at a friend's pool party earlier this month.

According to one source Mayer, infamously known as a Hollywood playboy who has swooned Taylor Swift, Jessica Simpson, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston, is ready to leave the bachelor lifestyle behind him and eventually settle down with Katy. The source claims, "He told her right from the start that he was going to 'cure' her heartache over Russell and wanted to meet 'The One,' so he could settle down and marry. He was clearly on a mission to get her to fall for him and it worked."

The "Wide Awake" singer is supposedly smitten with the idea, given that one inside source claims she's even considering giving Mayer a spare key to her Hollywood apartment.
