In a rather controversial statement made to a Singapore audience during a Megadeath show on August 7, lead vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine said that he believed President Barack Obama had staged the recent Aurora, Colorado cinema shootings and the killing spree at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin in an attempt to try and push through a tougher gun ban law.
In Mustaine's rant (captured by a fan in video footage below), he states:
"Back in my country, my president... he's trying to pass a gun ban, so he's staging all of these murders... Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there... and now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple."
He goes on to add, "I don't know where I'm gonna live if America keeps going the way it's going because it looks like it's turning into Nazi America."
Mustaine has made anti-Obama rants in the past - during an interview with Alex Jones the heavy metal musician said, "With all of the proof about his birth certificate being fake. And you see the signs in Kenya that say 'the birthplace of Barack Obama.' Hello?! C'mon, guys. How stupid are we right now?"
In response to Mustaine's claims one Aurora survivor, Carli Richards, blasted back with, "Some people think the president is a good scapegoat but he didn't shoot me."
