Model Lou Doillon Tells Vogue The Secret To French Style Is Arrogance

French model, actress and musician, Lou Doillon, is every inch a Parisian. According to Vogue, the French beauty is the face of Maje's latest ad campaign.

"I like her natural elegance," says Judith Milgrom, the brand's creative director. "And of course, her style."

Doillon always stays true to herself, even in the modeling industry, where it's easy to get lost in a sea of different views and strong personalities. Doillon shared with Vogue that she "enjoys an occasional pastrami sandwich at the neighboring Katz's Delicatessen." Even in downtown New York, she stays true to herself in a look that is a distinct hybrid of the best of the French and English style cues.

Doillon's aesthetic of boyish slouchy silhouettes has caught the eye of brands like Chloé, and now Maje, as well as the editorial pages of various fashion magazines.

"There is something slightly disturbing about communicating with the elite, and it has never been the elite that have inspired me," said Doillon about her personal style. "It's been the girl on the street. I love when you see girls, where you want to bring them back, like a bird that has fallen out of the nest. I love it when they wear the big coats, or have that messy hair."

As for Doillon's Parisian style, she says it has much to do with staying true to yourself.

"French style has got to do with a certain form of arrogance, which I love. French girls have a tremendous respect for themselves in a way, and so they have what they want to wear, and what they won't wear-even if every magazine cover is saying, "This is what you should be wearing,' " said Doillon. "French girls are funny like that. They have their own thing going."

As for her own style muse, Doillon chooses Kate Moss.

"I like to be moved by girls," says Doillon. "I was obsessed as a teenager with Kate Moss because she was a model who I wanted to bring back home! I like it when the jacket is too big or the trousers are too small."
