Every shoe fanatic knows shopping can be a pretty intense situation, especially if there's a sale going on. There's visual scanning, hoarding of boxes, checking for correct sizes. It can make anyone a bit anxious. So when Manolo Blahnik had its annual sample sale at the Warwick Hotel in NYC exclusively for editors and VIPs, things went from 0 to 100 - real quick.
According to StyleBlazer, women waited in line for nearly three hours before the doors opened at 9 a.m. The sale offered discounts up to 80 percent off, which is a pretty big deal.
In said line was Women's Wear Daily beauty editor, Julie Naughton, who was accused of having extra aggressive behavior which involved screams and insults.
Page Six reports shortly after the doors opened, Women's Wear Daily beauty editor Julie Naughton grew angry after several other editors tried to crash the line. A witness said Naughton went "full-on crazy" while waiting to get in, and "started freaking out that people who had just walked in were getting queued up before her."
The source related, "She was screaming, 'I hope these people don't ever want to work in publishing,' and then started trash-talking," said one attendee, "She looks like she's from Long Island and her Chanel bag is fake. She was being such a terrible bully."
WWD later defended Naughton, claiming that she got there at 6:30 a.m., waited patiently and was just "defending her spot."
"It was a crowded sample sale, and there were several line crashers," a WWD rep said. "Words were exchanged, but she was standing her ground, as she arrived earlier. She was defending her, and everyone else's, place in line."
