19 Kids and Counting star Jessa Duggar is finally married, but it wasn't as traditional a ceremony as many fans would've thought she would have. According to Us Weekly, Jessa and her husband Ben Seewald didn't seal their marriage with a kiss. Apparently, the couple decided they wanted to share the moment in private. However, not so, according to People, who said the kiss took place at the reception instead.
The TLC-filmed wedding occurred in front of about 1,000 of their closest family and friends at the First Baptist Church in Bentonville, Arkansas.
The couple had the same courtship rules as Jessa's older sister, Jill Duggar, who waited until her wedding day to kiss husband Derick Dillard.
The guests were surprised when the pastor officiating the ceremony, Mike Schadt, introduced the pair as Mr. and Mrs. Seewald, but then explained the reason for them not having their first kiss. In their place, Jessa's parents, Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar, kissed in front of the crowd.
"So, now you've seen a Duggar kiss," he said, according to People.
It was a sweet moment for the Duggars, who didn't follow the same courtship rules that they put upon their own kids.
"As far as our kids dating, we believe a lot of times if you're alone with a person, it can create desires that can kind of get stirred up, and you don't have any accountability, and [that] can lead to some hanky panicky," Jim Bob told ABC.
"We did not save our first kiss for our wedding day, and we really regret that we didn't. We really should have," wife Michelle continued.
It was only three months ago Ben asked Jessa to marry him in a creative scavenger hunt that will air on TLC this Tuesday, November 4. He had previously moved in to the family's estate to get to know his future in-laws on a more personal level.
