It's that time of year when the networks make the hard decision regarding which shows to keep and which ones should bite the dust. Fox has made the cancelation decision for one of their freshman reality series pretty painless, as they ripped the band-aid off and put an end to the struggling show Utopia.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the episode count for the social experiment series was cut earlier last month, before Fox's execs Dana Walden and Gary Newman made the decision to cancel the show altogether.
It seems that fans of the show as well as Walden and Newman will be sad to see the series go, as Walden explained the heads of the network were going to try to let the series "thrive and grow."
"We're definitely going to exhibit patience," Dana told THR back in September when asked about the show's future. "What exactly that means, it's hard to tell. I'd say that as long as we're feeling creatively satisfied with the show, we're going to do everything in our power to give it an opportunity to thrive and grow."
According to Yahoo, the show faced some pretty disappointing ratings in the last few go-arounds. The premiere episode debuted to 4.6 million viewers, which is a soft debut but not bad. However, the second episode cut the viewership in half and was only watched by 2.5 million people.
Deadline is also reporting that the ratings for last Friday's all-new episode only aired to 1.6 million people and that is what sealed its fate.
Starting this Friday, November 7, rerun episode of Masterchef Junior will take the place of Utopia.
