In this weeks episode – to air Thursday Nov. 6 – Hank's (Ray Romano) daughter Ruby (Courtney Grosbeck) is in trouble yet again, however, who will her dilemma be solved by this time around?
As Hank is working in his studio with Sarah (Lauren Graham) and Max (Max Burkholder), Ruby bursts into the studio demanding that her dad transfer her to another school.
As Hank tries to dig deeper into the reason his daughter is so upset, his naïve state towards teenage girl problems is interrupted when Sarah asks, "what's his name?"
"Jake, his name is Jake," Ruby sadly responds. Sarah, who has had her own troubled past as well as raised daughter Amber – the one who helped Ruby in the last episode – has hit the nail on the head with this one.
Sarah and Ruby are off to bond, as she takes her outside to talk more about this Jake fellow-who has apparently broken her heart. A confused Hank is evidently not following.
In the latest episode, "To Big to Fail," Ruby comes back to Hank's apartment drunk and vomiting and ends up in the hands of Amber (Mae Whitman) who ultimately helps her through her hangover, as wells as gives her a pep-talk in sympathizing with her dad more.
Amber's pregnancy is bringing out the motherly side to her and viewers are staring to see this as she is becoming more responsible young adult, by first taking care of Ruby and two asking her uncles Crosby (Dax Shepard) and Adam (Peter Krause) for a raise at the Luncheonette.
