Even though Danny Boyle's critically acclaimed film Trainspotting came out in 1996, talk of a sequel has been rampant in recent years. In fact, a recent interview with star Ewan McGregor revealed that filming could start on the project as soon as 2016!
Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, Robert Carlyle and Kelly Macdonald also starred in this movie (via Cinema Blend).
"It looks like it might happen," McGregor told Details in a recent interview. "The idea is that we shoot it in 2016, which would be 20 years after the original came out. And I'd be up for it. I wouldn't have been 10 years ago, but I am now."
You should check out the rest of the interview here, which includes some talk about Star Wars, fatherhood and other projects.
McGregor's quote is backed up by a comment from director Danny Boyle, who last year said that 2016 was the target year for filming and releasing Trainspotting 2.
"This has been a long time coming. There's always been this long term plan for Trainspotting 2, if John can produce a decent enough script, I don't think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back. I think they'll wanna know that the parts are good so they don't feel like they are letting anyone down," he told The Playlist, according to Slash Film. "The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don't disappoint people. That will be the only criteria I think."
