Sad news today for Yankee, Diamondback, and Oakland Athletic fans... or for any baseball fan in general. Brad Halsey, a pitcher for the major and minor league baseball teams, has passed away today at the age of 33.
According to USA Today, the athlete was climbing recreationally near his hometown of New Braunfels, Texas when he suddenly died. Details of his death are being kept private for the time being.
According to E! News, the star spent time with each of the teams and pitched for the Yankees between 2004 and 2006.
Today explains that Halsey was drafted to the Yankees in 2004 where he spent a few years before being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks, with fellow Yankee members Dioner Navarro and Javier Vazquez, in exchange for Randy Johnson.
During his time with the Yanks, he only had one win with the team, but a lot of the games he pitched in featured some (now) history-making moments, including one game where Derek Jeter dove into the stands to catch a foul ball. Another game that he pitched in was the one that Barry Bonds achieved his 714 career home run in.
The last time that Halsey pitched for a team in the major leagues was back in 2006 when he was a member of the Oakland A's.
San Francisco Chronicle reporter, Susan Slusser, who covered Halsey, expressed her condolences in a Tweet, writing --
Such, such sad news about Brad Halsey's death. He was smart and funny and delightful to cover, even just briefly. Only 33 years old.
