Tony Scott Death: Celebs take to Twitter to Mourn ‘Top Gun’ Director's Apparent Suicide

British Director Tony Scott was found dead on Sunday at the age of 68 after jumping off a L.A. County Bridge - authorities are investigating the case as an apparent suicide. Since news of the filmmaker's sudden death, celebrity and director companions have taken to Twitter to express their condolences.

Scott, director of top Hollywood films including "Top Gun," "Days of Thunder," and "Beverly Hills Cop II," was in the works of directing a sequel to the megahit "Top Gun."

After numerous reports were called into police on Sunday claiming that someone had jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles Harbor, a dive team was sent to the scene and Scott's body was eventually pulled from the water several hours later.

Celebrity fans took to the social networking site Twitter to mourn the news of Scott's passing:

James Gunn: "RIP Tony Scott. Damn. He was a huge inspiration. Very sad."

Dane Cook: "Devastated by the death of Tony Scott. Just watched True Romance 1 of my top 5 fav movies ever a few nights ago. #RIP."

Michael Rapaport: "There hasnt been 1 day since it came out that some1 doesnt say to me  "I love #TrueRomance" Tony Scott was a sweet enthusiastic & lovin man."

Ron Howard: "No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day."

Dana Brunetti: "Cannot believe the news about Tony Scott. Horrific and sad. Top Gun is one of my favorite movies of all time."

Michael De Luca: "My heart breaks for Tony Scott and his loved ones, my prayers and thoughts go out to them. Stunned and sad."

Scott leaves behind his wife Donna and their twin sons.
