Jimmy Fallon and Matthew McConaughey teamed up last night on The Tonight Show for a friendly game of face smashing... but never fear, it was all part of the show. As EW.com report, for the segment 'Facebreakers', the high-powered pair took turns throwing footballs at panes of glass emblazoned with the other's face, giving us the strange sight of Jimmy Fallon constantly smashing Matthew McConaughey's face.
Unsurprisingly it's Interstellar star McConaughey who looks the goods in the early going - his resume is littered with athletic roles, and he certainly looks like the kind of guy who toss a football with ease - but Fallon hangs in gamely and finds himself throwing for the win. Which isn't that much of a surprise, as MTV.com point out, Fallon created the game.

Highlights of the contest include McConaughey trying his hardest to put off a grinning Fallon by screeching 'ca-caw, ca-caw!' as he's trying to throw, lackadaisically dropping Spanish into conversation, making an effort to block Fallon's final attempt ("He's in the pocket, he;s feeling good!") and muttering "Gotta settle down here McConaughey, hang on a second baby" in an attempt relax before going for a throw.
Things really pick up in the second half of the contest, with backing band The Roots soundtracking both men speeding up their throws, to great effect.
It's been a big year for both men, with McConaughey taking out the Best Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club in March, which backed up his critically acclaimed performance in HBO's True Detective opposite Woody Harrelson.
Meanwhile Fallon has gone from strength-to-strength in his new role as host of The Tonight Show since taking over in February, injecting the show with a sense of irreverence and delivering viral-sized segments to broaden The Tonight Show's scope.
McConaughey is on the promo trail for Interstellar, the first film for Inception/Dark Knight trilogy director Chris Nolan since finishing his caped crusader cycle with The Dark Knight Rises. The sci-fi epic is in cinemas now.
