Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul with a new album of covers coming out, but the R&B icon doesn't mince words when asked what she thinks about today's music stars.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Aretha gave her thoughts about some of the biggest acts in music today including Taylor Swift, Adele and Nicki Minaj.

Her answers weren't the most flattering toward them:

On Adele: "Young singer, good singer."

On Alicia Keys: "Um, young performer, writer/producer."

On Taylor Swift: "Okay. Great gowns. Beautiful gowns."

On Whitney Houston: "Whitney was a talent. Definitely a talent. She had a gift. And Cissy's baby."

On Nicki Minaj: "Nicki Minaj ... Hmm ... Now I'm going to pass on that one."

In another interesting tidbit, the "Respect" singer was questioned about her impressions about Auto-Tune, a device used by many in the industry to enhance their voices.

"What is Auto-Tune? I don't even know what Auto-Tune is," she responded.

When told about it, all she could say was, "That's ridiculous!"

The singing diva has been on a publicity tour promoting her new album, Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics, which came out Oct. 21. The album debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard charts, selling 23,000 copies in its first week.

The first single from the record, a cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," caused a controversy among fans with its mashup of the song "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

Do you agree with Aretha about the singers who were mentioned, or do you think she was throwing too much shade at the new generation? Comment below!
