Ozzy Osbourne received the 2014 MTV EMA Global Icon Award last night (Nov. 11). The 65-year-old Black Sabbath frontman was honored at the ceremony in Glasgow for his contribution to music throughout his 40-year career.
Yahoo! Entertainment reports, speaking on the red carpet, the rocker said: "I can't believe it, it's just incredible."
Presenting the award on stage, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash honored the star and joked about the notorious incident in 1982 when the rocker bit the head off a bat during a show in Iowa.
"For four decades the Prince of Darkness has rocked anyone who dared to listen," he said. "This is a guy who does not know how to do ordinary. He scares the hell out of most people and all bats. But to me is a gentle man and a gentleman."
When given the award, the "Paranoid" singer joked: "I don't know where they got this icon sh*t from but it's good to be here tonight. God bless you all, thank you for coming."
His wife, Sharon Osbourne, who announced this summer that her family will shoot eight new episodes of their reality television show The Osbournes next year, also praised her husband of 32 years.
"I'm so proud. It's his night," she exclaimed. "I just want him to have the best time."
One Direction picked up three awards for Biggest Fans, Best Live and Best Pop act, with other wins for Ariana Grade, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber.
Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys, Charli XCX, Kiesza and Grande were a few of the performers who took the stage throughout the evening, but the 2014 EMAs had something special in store to end the night. Slash teamed up with Myles Kennedy, Simon Neil and the Conspirators to close out the show with a tribute to Osbourne that was immediately a must-see. Watch below!
