It's crazy to think that the two cities that have brought us "porn valley" (Los Angeles) and urine-stained sidewalks (New York City) can't handle a little riding-of-the-line in their billboards... but apparently that seems to be the case. After announcing earlier this year that House's Lisa Edelstein will star in Bravo's first ever-scripted dramedy, Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, the Real Housewives of New Jersey – the famed home of the now-jailed Teresa Giudice – network is getting ready to make their shift to scripted TV –– because reality television isn't scripted, of course. Unfortunately, the new ads, which feature Edelstein holding up her ring finger with the tag "Go Find Yourself," have been banned on and in both NYC and LA subways and buses.
The Hollywood Reporter has noted that the ads have been banned due to "inappropriate material." We're not sure about you, but if you've ever ridden the New York City subway system then you're constantly finding inappropriate material in the stations and aboard the trains... mainly from other passengers and subway-dwellers.
Dom Camera, principal at Dom Camera & Company, a NY-based ad agency, is Bravo's "out-of-home media buyer." He told THR that not only was the MTA not on aboard with the ad, but also The Grove, located in LA, didn't seem to care for it.
On the reaction, Camera was quoted saying, "I never expected we'd get a turn-down for this campaign."
He also mentioned that CBS Outdoor, located in both NYC and LA, gave the ad their OK but later turned it down due to the aforementioned "inappropriate material" claim.
So, what's the ad that is causing all of the ruckus? Check out a version of it below. For the full ad, head to THR.
So, there you have it. The subway smell of urine is totally fine, but New York and Los Angeles will be damned if you see Lisa Edelstein on their billboards!
Of course, should you want to catch the premiere of Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, hop on over to Bravo this coming Dec 2 at 10 p.m.
