"Party Rocker" and LMFAO honcho Redfoo has been forced to defend his involvement in a song that has sparked a huge controversy surrounding its misogynistic and sexist message.

"Literally I Can't" has ignited a storm of criticism, with Huffington Post calling it the "most offensive song of the year", while Salon called "Literally I Can't" "the literal worst song of the year" saying that "All other wannabe horrible songs and videos of 2014, you can go home. This wins. And while you can, literally, watch and listen to it, I can promise if you do it'll literally be the worst four minutes of your day."

The song and its video - depicting Redfoo, along with Lil Jon, Enertia McFly and Play-N-Skillz throwing a party at a frat house and disdainfully treating a group of girls - sparked a storm over its attitudes to women. It features Redfoo and company repeatedly telling women at the party (who are presumably talking) to "shut the f-k up", while also imploring them to get "low low low while I Instagram ya."

It also delivers lines like "While I'm at my motherf-king table and I'm trying to dance, don't f-king talk to me," "You got a big o'l butt, I can tell from the way you're walking / but you annoy me, because you're talking" and "Shhh.. don't talk about it be about it / work it, and twerk it, and maybe I'll tweet about it."

Taking to Twitter in order to defend himself, Redfoo claimed that people were taking the song out of context, and critics were victimizing him by misinterpreting his work. In a string of tweets he defended the song, saying that he loves and respects women - presumably while telling them to "shut the f-k up" - and in his 'Fact #3' tweet, he claims that the song was satire.

Australian newspaper The Herald Sun called for the Australian version of The X Factor, on which Redfoo is a judge, to drop him, saying "He's released what can only be described as a sexist, offensive and misogynist song, Literally I Can't" and adding "There's still about seven weeks left in the year, but we're gonna call it: this is the worst song of 2014."

Others took to Twitter to spread a petition to demand his sacking from The X Factor

Literally, Redfoo can't escape the backlash this has caused.
