Looks like there's only room for one diva at the "American Idol" judge's table. According to TMZ, Mariah Carey hung up the phone when told that hip-hop princess Nicki Minaj would be joining the "Idol" cast, insinuating that the "Triumphant" singer is none too pleased with the decision.
Although rumors surrounding the casting of the new "American Idol" judge(s) (should it be a man or a woman? Is Randy Jackson really going to leave his post?) have been a blur, one inside sources told Us Weekly on Monday, "I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, [Minaj] is definitely doing it. A few more things to sign off on but it is happening."
Now sources tell TMZ the "Pound the Alarm" singer was not the co-judge Carey had in mind. Supposedly the "Glitter" star was hoping to be the only woman on the cast, and given that Minaj is much younger (29 compared to Carey's 42), it merely adds more fuel to the fire. Although a spokeswoman for Carey insists that, "this is not true. Mariah is too much of a lady to ever do such a thing."
"American Idol" producers are already losing viewers and fans with so much "judging rumor" hoopla (just check out some of the tweets and article comments about the situation on a number of social media outlets). Given that former judge Randy Jackson might also be leaving the show, "Idol" would then have to cast another male, and rumors surrounding that are even more hectic (Pharrell Williams? Nick Jonas? Sean "Diddy" Combs? Keith Urban? Lenny Kravitz?)
The people at "American Idol" better get their act together before the show turns into "Carey's Idol." Hopefully if the rumors are true and Minaj does join the cast, the two pop star divas are able to work together and maybe even become America's new hottest "frenemies."
