The NCAA college basketball season is about to explode, and youngsters Marcus Paige and Jahlil Okafor are tipped to dominate this season, possibly entering the NBA as early as next year. However, legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has insisted the college players are being "exploited," adding to the debate that has been going on for years. Will these stars rise to the levels Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker set last season, or will they fall short, and spend longer being "exploited" by their college sports teams?
Paige, a guard for North Carolina, and forward Okafor for Duke, have both made the All-America team, adding more to their already huge hype surrounding their futures. The two younsterss will evidently be delighted with their achievement, but with honours like this, and nothing coming in return, could Kareem be correct, are they being exploited?
Both stars look like they will be one-and-done players, but is it any wonder why, with little-to-no-help coming their way whilst at college. If Jahlil can run off to the NBA, and make millions of dollars, why would he choose to stay in college?
Kareem insisted he was "always too broke to do much but study, practice and play." Should this be the manner in which they are treated, or do they deserve more? The argument will continue to go on and on, and surely the NCAA will help them further, all whilst looking to avoiding offering them the All-Star style of living before they reach the NBA. The NCAA season looks like being one to remember.
