Alicia Keys juggles many hats as a mom, wife, singer, philanthropist, and actress. The "Empire State of Mind" singer manages to succeed in her career all the while remaining humble and poised. According to Vibe Vixen, Keys took some time out of her busy schedule and stopped by the Wendy Williams Show on Nov. 12 to promote her new children's book, Blue Moon: From the Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee. Of course being the hot topics queen that Wendy is, she saved questions regarding the book for last. From the due date and sex of her unborn child to married life with Swizz Beatz and successfully maintaining a blended family, Keys opened up about her personal life. Here is what we learned about Keys from her Wendy interview.
The sex of the baby is actually a secret.
"We know. We're not sharing yet, but we're super excited," Keys laughed. The Harlem native dodged Wendy's questions regarding the sex of the baby by answering, "Egypt is ready to be a big brother."
The Deans may have a New Year's baby.
Radiating with the glow of motherhood, Alicia announced that the baby is due at the end of December. She also revealed to Wendy that it might be on New Years Eve.
"They said New Years Eve. I really think it's an adorable date but we'll see."
Alicia credits "being an adult" to her successfully blended family.
There is no secret that Alicia and Swizz's ex-wife Mashonda have come together as two strong women for the sake of their kids.
"It's about the kids, and so when everybody is able to be an adult, which we all are able to be, there's actually a beautiful value about the way we can influence each other's lives and the lives of the kids," Alicia said.
She compares her relationship with husband, Swizz Beatz, to one of "kindred spirits."
After four years of marriage it's safe to say that the Deans are very much in love. It's rare to see celebrity marriages last and blossom as beautifully as the Dean's.
Birthday competitions are a big deal between Alicia and Swizzy.
"We've come to start doing competitions. I don't know how it started but we now have birthday competitions. It's fun because I want to outdo him and he wants to outdo me," she said. This year, Alicia surprised Swizz with a huge "Coming to America" themed birthday party.
Her new children's book Blue Moon: From the Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee builds upon the important relationship between child, mother, and grandparent.
Alicia revealed to Wendy, "We really modeled the relationship after myself and my grandmother."
With an absentee father for most of her life, she has built very strong relationships with her mother and grandmother, who have been her support system since day one.
