Following the release of yet another Isis beheading video, which took the life of US hostage Peter Kassig and a number of Syrian soldiers, police are now investigating and believe that a Cardiff student could very well be one of the Isis members seen in the video. The Guardian reports that such an investigation comes from the French prosecutors office, which has confirmed that one of the men in the video was indeed a French national named Briton Nasser Muthana.
This past Monday, the 20-year-old's father, Ahmed, reportedly told the Guardian that the person in the propaganda video could be his son. "It looks like him," he said. "I can't be certain because of the quality of the picture and you can never be sure. But it could be him."
Nasser and his younger brother, Aseel (17), were born and raised in Britain, but reportedly betrayed their country and left to fight and join Isis. As a result of that, their father claims to now have no sons. "That's how I feel about them," he added, stating that the two would not be welcomed back home should they return. "There has been no communications with me at all. I don't expect to see them ever again."
While Muthana notes that the person in the video looks like his son, he is firmly hoping it is not him. "I am like any other father. I am trying not to believe it is my boy but it looks like him." At the same time, the father admits he will not be making any excuses, noting that his son is a grown man, and if it is him in the video, "he must face up to what he has done."
It seems that as of yesterday, it is uncertain whether or not the victim in the most recent Isis beheading video is Peter Kassig, but most speculate it to be so.
