Jennifer Aniston is opening up about her latest film Cake and the character she plays, which is different than anything she's ever done. The drastic change in character and performance has her in the mix for an Oscar nod and she couldn't be happier.
"It was just a wonderfully beautiful story of a woman in extraordinary pain, living through an unthinkable trauma," Jennifer told People at InStyle and The Cinema Society's Sunday premiere of the indie film in New York City. "You have empathy for the character."
The 45-year-old revealed that her character, Claire Simmons, was a real challenge, but she grew to love her. "That was a challenge for me. How do we tell this story without having everyone hate her? I actually loved her. But the movie has a beautiful way of unfolding itself without giving the story away and allowing the audience to go with the journey as it's being told," she revealed to the publication.
When asked how she felt about all the of the Oscar buzz, Jennifer responded that she is "flattered," and when she heard talks about the possibility of her winning an Oscar this year she reacted, "awkwardly and stutteringly."
"It's flattering, it's humbling, it's exciting, whatever, to even be in that conversation, so to speak, so I think that's just a win in itself," Jennifer said in an interview with the Associated Press via Newsday.
Cake isn't the only film that Jennifer has been working on, the Friends alum can also be seen in a more comical role as Dr. Julia Harris, D.D.S. in Horrible Bosses 2, which comes out on Nov. 24.
"She's hardly tapped out," Jennifer said about her hilarious dentist character to AP. "We all were a bit sad when this movie came to an end because I, for one, felt it was too soon to end Julia's party." As for another installment of the comedy she said, "I don't know. It's up to you all."
