"Privateer Holding & Marley family unveil cannabis brand based on Bob's life & legacy," reads a statement on the companies' page. "Privateer Holdings is a private equity firm shaping the future of the legal cannabis industry." Marley Natural will offer smokers the "heirloom Jamaican cannabis strains," which is said to be one of Marley's favorite strains.
Cedella Marley, the musician's daughter, talked about her father in a statement, saying, "He viewed the herb as something spiritual that could awaken our well-being, deepen our reflection, connect us to nature and liberate our creativity."
Marley died at the young age of 36 in 1981, however his legend and iconic aura is still much a part of the cannabis society. He was a committed Rastafari who infused his music with heaps of spirituality.
"My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb," said Cedella. "He viewed the herb as something spiritual that could awaken our wellbeing, deepen our reflection, connect us to nature and liberate our creativity."
Brendan Kennedy, CEO of Privateer Holdings, told The Guardian that Marley's brand could have the potential to be the Starbucks of cannabis. He stated that there are already strains of cannabis named after the singer being sold without the family's approval. By the end of next year, the company is looking to sell the Marley Naturals to states where it is already legal. They will even sell creams, lotions and other accessories associated by Marley.
