"Keeping up with the Kardashian" reality star Kim Kardashian and husband, Kanye West received a backhanded compliment from Vogue editor Anna Wintour, months after placing them on the cover of the April 2014 issue and days after the 34-year-old appeared nude on Paper magazine.
According to Fashionista.com, Nov. 17 Anna opened up surrounding te controversial magazine cover with journalist Alina Cho, "The first celebrity that I put on the cover of Vogue was Madonna, and that was considered completely controversial at that time, too," she said, "Now she's part of the establishment. I think if we just remain deeply tasteful and just put deeply tasteful people on the cover, it would be a rather boring magazine! Nobody would talk about us." Adding, that Kim's popularity gave the magazine a major buzz, "It's very important that people do talk about us."
On a lighter side, the fashion gatekeeper commended Estee Lauder cosmetics' decision to pick Kendall Jenner as the new face for their brand (without the shade), "What a fantastic decision that was! They have a wonderful brand that's very traditional American, and they decided they want to shake it up and reach a different audience," Wintour said. "Now and again one has to do things like that. I think it's partly of the excitement of being a journalist. I hope another Kim Kardashian comes along this year!"
Was there a bit of a diss when referring to Kim and Kanye as "distasteful" people?
