After its first trailer premiere at New York Comic Con, audiences are gearing up to watch PlayStation's superhero/drama series, Powers. Based on the comic book by Brian Michael Bendis, will actress Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward) and Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) have the right chemistry together, making their characters "funny, sexy and dark as hell?"

As we mentioned here, Powers is set in an alternate world where superpowers have become part of everyday life. Detective Christian Walker (Copley) meets his new feisty partner Deena Pilgrim (Heyward), who has been assigned to the "Powers" Division of the Chicago Police Department. The first story arc from writer Bendis and artist Michael Avon Oeming, "Who Killed Retro Girl?" follows the lead detectives as they investigate the murder of a popular super heroine (played by Michelle Forbes).

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, the Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man scribe reveals the long process of adapting his comic book, which started out on FX before moving on to PlayStation. Before becoming the showrunner, Charlie Huston had written an episode that impressed everyone in the writers room so much, Bendis called the FX president and said, " "By the way if you're looking for Powers, if you're searching for it, this is it. It's funny, sexy and dark as hell."

Well into their seventh episode, the All-New X-Men writer understands comics and television are two different mediums.

Bendis adds, "So you're going to recognize almost everything that's in the show from somewhere in the book. Charlie did a very interesting thing in cherry picking from the get go in order to make the best television show."

Readers should also check out the Powers trailer [footage contains explicit language]:

We previously mentioned how Hayward, Eddie Izzard, and Noah Taylor have brought their comic book characters to life.

Powers is expected to air on the PlayStation Network on December 2014. Readers, what do you think of Christina Walker and Deena Oilgrim?
