Over the summer, we learned of the new season and the upcoming holiday special episode.
"A special, plus a new series of three episodes - it's a record-breaking run!" the series co-creator Steven Moffat said in a statement at the time. "Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John is the very last thing you'd expect."

Both stars are featured in next month's The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies movie, with Cumberbatch providing the voice of the mincing dragon, Smaug, and Freeman leading the project as Bilbo Baggins.
