When Seth Rogen and James Franco set out to make a movie where they'd be hired to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, they had to know they'd be making some lifelong enemies, right? Well, we hope so, because the notably twisted country has slammed the Pineapple Express pair yet again for their upcoming film. It's being reported that a "government-controlled" site by the name of Uriminzokkiri (North Korean-controlled, of course) released a statement earlier today (Friday, Nov. 28), just a little under a month before the opening of Rogen and Franco's newest film, The Interview. And just what is the statement? Well, one that claims the duo deserve some "stern punishment."
Oh boy...
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the North Korean website's statement reads, "The cheekiness to show this conspiracy movie, which is comprised of utter distortions of the truth and absurd imaginations, is an evil act of provocation against our highly dignified republic..."
The statement goes on to note that the film truly ridicules the "righteous people" of North Korea in what they call an incredible "insult" to their nation. There's also talk about how The Interview is a "trashy" piece of work, calling the filmmakers also trashy... people who "have compromised the dignity and conscience of filmmaking."
And yes, they claim that Franco, Rogen and all those involved must be "subject to our stern punishment." We're assuming those who okay'ed the film (and maybe those who see it?) are included.
Furthermore, the statement is chockfull of talk about how the writer pities the United States for attempting to "threaten the authority" of the country. Great, yet another problem for President Obama, huh?
For those brave enough, The Interview opens in theaters on Christmas Day –– probably not in North Korea, though.
